Still Tight in the Middle of the East

Only three points separate third place from fifth in the Eastern Conference. DC United, hoping for a win at home last night against the visiting LA Galaxy, were held scoreless. They gained only one point in the standings as a result of the 0-0 draw.
A United goal was incorrectly called back in the 7th minute after Luciano Emilio was flagged offside. Other than that, DC failed to generate any formidable offense. The same is also true for Landon Donovan and the Galaxy. The return of noted salesman and underwear model David Beckham from a red card suspension did little if anything to boost LA's chances.
In the last few minutes of regulation, the Galaxy finally did push the momentum their way, however thanks to the efforts of DC goalkeeper Josh Wicks, they failed to capitalize.
The result keeps DC nestled in fourth place, with the New England Revolution nipping at their heels for that valuable 4th playoff spot. With the season in its final third, the middle of the East gets more interesting by the day.
A single unexpected win or loss at this point could spell disaster for DC, who are historically one of the most successful teams in the league. Tonight the Revolution will play at home against Real Salt Lake, and will try to wrestle away that coveted spot.
The Revolution also have three games in hand over the four teams above them. Two of these, however, are against the defending champions - and current conference leaders - the Columbus Crew.
